The refugee crisis dominates discussion among world leaders and for good reason. According to the UNHCR, we are witnessing the highest levels of human displacement in history – over 65 million people around the world have been forced from their homes. Recent figures from the United Nations reveal that Germany has accepted more migrants than any other European country.

Jason Bohen, a 24-year old musician from Southern California, travelled to Oberkrämer, Germany, to help with the massive influx of refugees. This is his story of how he found a way to bring together many strangers living in a strange land, many of them unable to communicate by conversation.

Through guitar, harmonica and dance, and by hosting a “cross-cultures fair,” Bohen did something we know music and dance can do, but here it is powerfully caught on video.
