Filmmaker Werner Herzog was at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica where the American Cinematheque screened “Into the Abyss,” a documentary about two men convicted of a triple homicide. The film examines the morality of capital punishment – a sentence received by one of the convicted men – but is far from a political piece. Herzog speaks about why he began his studies on death row inmates and why he eventually chose to stop.
