The feature film Trumbo (2015), staring Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, is based on the true story of blacklisted writer Dalton Trumbo. The celebrated role has earned Cranston numerous accolades including an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Trumbo, once the highest paid writer in Hollywood, is known for such classic works as Johnny Got His Gun, Roman Holiday, Exodus and Spartacus. He was a member of the Hollywood Ten, a group of men called in front of Congress to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee and found to be in contempt of congress for exercising their First Amendment right to free speech. The following interview features Trumbo Director Jay Roach and Brian Cranston as they discuss the complexity of Dalton Trumbo and the opportunity to work closely with the family to develop an accurate depiction of the Trumbo character.
